Family Series(Part 3): Dear Farmer's Mother...the Dynamo!

The easiest way to explain why Dear Farmer is the amazing man he is, is to introduce to you his mother, the Dynamo!
From poorest of poor origins, growing up in the Gary Area of Indiana, she was the toughest little Puerto Rican you'd encounter.  She endured trials and heartaches, but never was a victim of any circumstance.  She rose above and prevailed.
So when she adopted a blonde haired, blue eyed, little boy who seemed to be the energy level of the Tazmanian Devil...instead of veiwing him as the "spawn of Satan", she saw him as a "Beloved Gift from God".  When everything seemed like the world was set against them, she took everything head on and plowed through.
So Dear Farmer, being brought up by the Dynamo!, does things much the same way.  He takes the world head-on, looks at the facts and deals with the necessities. Had he not been taught to be an over-comer rather than a victim, he wouldn't be the Dear Farmer that he is today.
Thank you, Dynamo!  You have awfully big shoes for us to fill, for having such tiny feet.
Happy Mother's Day!

Job Security

Dear Farmer has it.  Fact of the matter is: around here no one can do "everything", but him.

The Wife has it.  Fact of the matter is: no one else wants it....here's the story...
In the past the Hausfrau Farmer's Daughter has fancied herself "practically perfect in every-way".  She's not actually too far off the mark, her faults are few.  Then again, she hasn't lived very long, or very much, so it's easy to be measured within a very small pond as a very big fish.  One of her admirable qualities is that she enjoys a mother's job.  All she wants to be, she says, is a mother.  {sigh} How sweet!  Her opportunity came this week as the Wife came down with a raging fever and was useless for five days.  The Hausfrau Farmer's Daughter was delighted to be told by Dear Farmer "You're in charge of the meals and the kitchen, keep it together."  Like the angels in heaven began to sing and the doors of glory opened whilst the light of divinity shone on her face, she felt something like that.  What started off as an angelic ideal began to turn into cruel reality.  By the end of the third day the Wife had a haggard and whining Hausfrau moaning "I'm not supposed to be a mom for twenty more years!"  The reality of the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer is that no one is ever perfectly satisfied, but it doesn't change the job.  You can't please everyone all the time.  And no matter how much you clean it-it's never going to stay that way permanently.  And I'm just talking about the kitchen and meals...
The Hausfrau Farmer's Daughter did an amazing job!  She made her own menu using everything we had in the kitchen, no shopping was needed.  She cleaned it, cooked it, and managed it.  She really did well. The other children really didn't need to stop and appreciate her job, because she did it so well, it varied little from the Wife being there.  But all these positives, when over-worked and tired, become negatives.  The sign of maturity is when we look at the glass "half-empty" and see it as beautiful and we choose to proclaim to the world it is "half-full".  The Hausfrau Farmer's Daughter isn't quite there yet.  She's asleep in bed...enjoying the fact that the Wife is better and awake.
The Wife is grateful that the Hausfrau had this opportunity.  Lessons lived are often better learned.  And it's nice to know that I have job security for another "twenty years"!

I'm a mother, what's your super-power?

Motherhood: the only vocation where one can hold a full-time job with no pay, no vacations, no worker's compensation and no one offering to form a union to get any of those.  There's no room for advancement and no retirement. Hired for a lifetime with the understanding that mother is to be totally selfless and giving.
Children can be hatched, birthed, adopted, or acquired...but mothers are all equalized in labor. No matter how children come into the house...a mother had to await their arrival. All that and yet I still say, "Motherhood is GREAT!"
In what other occupation can you set your own hours (for the most part), never punch a time card, and dress however you'd like?  In motherhood you tell your employees (er..children) how-to, when-to, and what-to for everything.  Mothers are the ultimate teachers!  Mothers are the cheerleaders, the coaches, and the substitute players of the team!  Mothers are the conductors of the band!
There is nothing like the power-rush of being a mother!  Realizing you have "Incredible Cosmic Power! In an itty-bitty living space." (Robin Williams as the Gene in Disney's "Aladdin")
Mothers are responsible for the future generations!
To the mother that raised me, prayed for me, cried over me and with me..."THANK YOU!"
To all you mothers out there, "Happy Mother's Day!"

I'm a mother, what's your super power?
